MELISSA FEHR
Bio:
I grew up in a tiny backwater in Pennsylvania but have lived in London for 5 years. I now live on a Dutch barge in the Thames which was once a hotel, which my boyfriend and I are slowly renovating. Despite learning to sew from an early age, I only started designing and creating in earnest in 2002, and FW/07 marks my first full collection showcasing my own style and focusing on my personal fashion needs.
How long have you been designing? Since 2002.
Inspirations behind your collection are/is: On my daily commute, I walk past City workers in their drab business suits, then past the trendy Shoreditch fashion shops touting throwaway, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it micro-fashion. I’ve designed this collection to bring together the fashionable and the classic from both worlds.
Highlights of this year: I created a summer dress made from an IKEA shower curtain to celebrate the Glastonbury festival, which was featured on the front page of the New York Times. The full colour photo shoot involved wearing the dress on a tire swing under the spray of a garden hose!
Any past shows/events/press you have been featured in? I’ve been featured in the New York Times, IKEA’s Swedish staff newsletter, Speigel (Germany), and Tages-Anzeiger (Switzerland).
Where can individuals purchase your collections from? The garments on show tonight are one-off samples but I welcome all requests and commissions at enquiries@fehrtrade.com

STUART BAMFORD

Bio: Romeo and Hyde the hip new denim brand focuses on individuality in this now comparable world. The essence of the label is expressed through its character inspired name; Romeo, which embodies the love of the unique and Hyde, the secret, disciplined and hidden alter ego. Designed and launched by Stuart Bamford the label combines the earthy independence of growing up in Melbourne, the quality and edginess of Japanese denim with his now home, London using its underground music seen for inspiration.
How long have you been designing? After studying in Milan, Italy, I have been designing for 4-5 years with the last 2 years focusing on denim.
Inspirations behind the collection: The collection titled “You, Rock, Soul and Me” is inspired by the rock poetry whose words defined an era in the late 70’s. Using the artists’ names for the jeans combined with a line from Patti Smith encompasses what the label stands for in its launch collection; ‘don’t forget who you are’.
Highlights of this year: Firstly Launching Romeo & Hyde after years of determination and hard work. Dressing Faithless with Cass Fox on the world tour.
Past shows/events/press you have been featured in? Featured in “Must have clothes” for UK Music Festivals by RWD Magazine.
Where can individuals purchase your collections from? Currently just launching to buyers stock will be in stores in January 08 however advance orders and purchasing can be organised by visiting our website www.romeoandhyde.com
